Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Is being a super fan the same as being a geek? Why is being a geek cooler now than it used to be?

Claire’s Answer: I am a super fan of my tribe’s leader, Jerome. I think he’s really awesome and so does everyone else in my tribe. He also has a bit more power than the average tribe member, so yeah, I sometimes geek-out when he pays attention to me.

Geeks are cooler in modern times ‘cause you no longer need to be physically strong to be powerful. Geeks can use specialized knowledge to make money, so then they don’t need muscles to get what they want.

Question: What does Claire think about this Covid-19?

Claire’s Answer: I don't think about viruses. I live in a tribe and there are only about 100 of us. The people in my tribe are the only people I trust and we are very isolated. I have antibodies for all the sickness the people in my tribe have had, and since we generally stay away from other tribes, the chances of me catching a sickness my body can't handle are very small. I am a very good cavedweller so I will continue to stay away from strangers.

Question: At work, I notice some of the other women are very nice to my face, but then not so much behind my back. Why do people do this?

Claire’s Answer: I am part of a tribe, and since I am a forager who does not hunt very often, I need to get along with other “gatherers” in my tribe. And because I might be able to have a baby one day, I have not evolved to physically fight with other gatherers that often. So the way I might “get my way” as a gatherer is by forming alliances. The balance of alliances is very important because things need to be predictable between the members of our tribe. Perhaps you are getting “too close” to the balance of a modern workplace alliance. These alliances are not always permanent though, so try not let it bother you too much. Just keep doing your job and keep being you.
